The CDMA Hardware Cost Reduction & Sustaining department consists of 6 teams (80+ engineers) located in Beijing and Guangdong responsible for the following areas:
? Hardware cost reduction (digital, RF, mechanical, FPGA’s) & new base station configurations
? Sustaining support for hardware products (1x/EVDO base station and BSC)
? System integration
? Hardware certification (UL, EMC, IS-97, FCC, etc.)
? Programmable Logic solutions (FPGA’s)
? Program management
The team is responsible for end-to-end support and delivery of all CDMA hardware cost reduction programs, troubleshooting of field and factory found problems, and providing problem fixes for Nortel’s global customers.
The leader for this department needs to complete the transition of skills, knowledge, and ownership of all the hardware responsibilities from the team in North America to the team in China, take over ownership of in-progress projects, and take ownership for planning and launching new projects. The CDMA hardware leader is accountable to the CDMA business for delivering all CDMA hardware programs and support of existing products in the field. Key accountabilities include:
? Accountable to the executive team for team’s overall performance and deliverables in the context of business and product solution objectives, customer, quality, and reliability requirements
? Accountable for the technical definition, content, scheduling, planning, and implementation for the delivery of hardware programs.
? Accountable for program risk assessment, planning, implementation and management
? Responsible for key program decisions across large programs that set the direction of design, design methodology, technical priority, project goals, and development requirement efforts.
? Responsible for working with 3rd party vendors, supply chain, and factory to deliver hardware programs
? Responsible for defining and implementing resource requirements for the organization and for the efficiency and productivity of the hardware development team.
? Responsible for establishing budget requirements, securing budget, and managing budget parameters
? Responsible for overall product and program quality
? Responsible for determining the organizational structure and ensuring organizational efficiency.
