Job Description:
General Summary:
This individual will take a leadership role in architecting, implementing, and supporting power system solutions for storage systems and related products in the Engineering organization.The duties include:
· Leading the definition and specification of power systems components in a product development cycle.
· Contributing to the technical solutions required for the product.This includes making circuit and firmware design recommendations for portions of the product’s requirements, and holding appropriate design and test result reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
· Manage the technical aspects of the procurement process for externally procured components and sub-assemblies, such as Request for Quote proposal reviews, Request for Change, etc.Technology areas include ac/dc and -48V/dc converter design, dc/dc point-of-load converters, and battery backup systems.
· Overseeing the development tasks required to implement the design, which include interfacing with all other members of the project team, including system development engineers, mechanical and PCB layout design engineers, product test and manufacturing organizations, in a global business environment.
· Provide multidisciplinary development leadership and guidance in areas of mechanical and thermal design, microcontroller selection and firmware development, as required in delivering power system solutions.
· Participate in defining and be accountable for metrics on function vs. cost, schedule, reliability, efficiency and performance for products developed, and be involved with program management in the planning and tracking of resources and schedules.Effective communication skills, including good command of the English language in spoken and written form, are a key requirement for the position.
· Provide technical guidance and program direction to development partners and suppliers during the lifecycle of product development.Initiate and drive supplier task execution in meeting goals set during the product definition phase for cost, schedule, and performance.
· Participating in activities within the corporate organization that lead to continuous improvements and excellence in power system quality and reliability.
· Provide strategic sustaining engineering support for customer or supplier issues that are critical to business continuity.
· Concept development and idea generation for future product families.
· Defining and driving execution for Green Power initiatives and goals for products
Experience:
· 8 years of applicable experience minimum, with some experience in high availability, high reliability power electronics and power system design.
· Understanding of the various topologies and circuit design solutions common to the technology, and a proven ability to apply them correctly during a development cycle.
· Requires a strong understanding and familiarity of computer system hardware, from system architecture to microcontroller hardware and firmware, as it pertains to power system design.Working knowledge in areas such as thermal design, mechanical design, control theory, and component characteristics, as they relate to power supply design.
· Must have a good understanding and experience with the power supply OEM industry as a whole, in order to make accurate and optimum make-vs.-buy decisions in commoditized product areas.
Education:
BSEE minimum, with emphasis in analog circuit analysis and design, firmware and microcontrollers and/or power electronics.
MSEE degree is desirable but not required
